S.U.C.C.E.S.S.
Students United to Create a Climate of Engagement , Support and Safety (S.U.C.C.E.S.S.) empowers students to partner with schools and communities to develop comprehensive and sustainable strategies for engagement, support, and safety at school. Over the last year, youth and adults have partnered through S.U.C.C.E.S.S. to develop strategies that promote a safe and participatory school climate for optimal social, emotional and academic learning.
Friday Night Live Press Conference
Fresno County’s Friday Night Live chapters apply environmental prevention strategies to reduce alcohol access, consumption, and promotion among young people. Currently under their social norms campaign the youth are working to tackle common misconceptions about youth and alcohol consumption. Watch the video to learn more!
S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Conference: Educate yourself!
On Saturday, October 29, 2011 the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Team held a local conference for the young people in Fresno, we are happy to announce that we had over a 100 participants that day. The purpose of the conference was to get youth from Fresno Unified to spend a afternoon together to educate themselves on their rights, responsibilities and resources that are available to them as students.
Fresno Youth Council for Sustainable Communities
Check out the what the Fresno Youth Council for Sustainable Communities has been up to. The Youth Council for Sustainable Communities, which has chapters in Fresno, Sacramento, and the Bay Area, gives the youth a chance to be a part of important decisions. Their mission is to transform their communities into healthy, eco-friendly environments and create economic opportunities through green jobs.



Youth Convening
On April 29th through May 1st the Youth Engagement Team hosted the first ever BHC regional youth convening. The purpose of the convening was to get youth from all over the state to spend a weekend together to think about their community, create ways to to engage their community, and decide how to continue to engage their community for the following ten years.
Fresno Bus Tracker
Check out Fresno Bus Tracker, a tool for the Fresno community to report and track incidents that occur on the Fresno Area Express (FAX) bus system. Information is collected when riders text it in or enter it online and then quickly informs the city on the problems that the FAX bus system is having, and thus notifies the riders and the bus system on the current problems.
Planning for the Future
On October 11, 2011 Building Healthy Communities partner organizations shared with the mayor and city council members the results of 850 one on one interviews with residents about what they would like to see changed or improved in their neighborhoods. The goal of the meeting was so that the input could be made part of the downtown neighborhood general plan process.
